@tamiyaappreciator anyone know if they will be re-releasing the ford ranger also ?? it would seem a shame if they only released these two without the ranger !

i feel sorry for al those people who paid a few grand for the old sand scorchers, because they are worth less now that tamyia took it back in production with some modifications. I'll bet that al the bruiser/hi-lux owners sh*t their pants right now, because when tamyi comes with these classics, then why wouln't they come out with the new bruisers? A few years ago tamy said that the metal parts were to expencive to make, but they must changed their minds as we can see with the scorcher

I'm so excited that these models have been brought back from the dead but the original advert was so much better. This new loom is so lame!

I saw in a British VW enthusiasts´magazine that there´s a guy who´s built a full size exact replica of this car, with this paint job. It even has 2 giant bolt heads in the roof, increased positive rear axle camber, and-get this- a scale whip aerial with a wire running up it! I can´t imagine Traxxas or HPI inspiring that kind of dedication.

  9. Mar 5, 2010 at 10:52 AM by v5dan

Got the buggy champ, loved building it, worth all the effort, brought so many memories back on how fantastic building a tamiya kit is. Just got my hands on the scorcher, itching to get cracking with the build and scratching my head on how best to paint that shell, want to do it boxart like my champ. Anyways, thankyou Tamiya for listening, and bringing back these legends! Oh, please, please, please with a cherry on top, bring back the bruiser!!!!

Why would they use the diff on sand? The only advantage of the "locked axle" of the old SRBs is that they don't stuck so easy on sand :-)

Rough rider in water and sand scorcher on sand just great. I bet the scorcher has a ball diff, you can tell.

If you search in ebay for Tamiya hump you can find some 3rd company ones, also if you search for LiPo LiFe balancer you will find some which do both.

I just had a look on ebay and did a quick google search and couldn't find either of those batteries. I've got no problem with buying the 6.6v battery, I just need to know what balancer to use with it that can also be used with 5000mAh LiPo's.

  17. Feb 14, 2010 at 01:00 AM by tamiyaappreciator

You can also use a hump pack or the special Tamiya Tyrrell pack.

I bought one but my NiMh batteries are too big. Do I have to use the 6.6 volt pack and if so what's the right balancer for that battery?

  19. Feb 13, 2010 at 02:01 PM by GARETH012005

i hope the xlt ford ranger will be re-released too.

  20. Feb 13, 2010 at 08:19 AM by tamiyaappreciator

Of course, it has a normal RS-540SH like most entry RC, you just need a shorter pack like the hump pack or the special Tamiya Tyrrell pack. Am sure even with 6.6V though its faster then the original with 7.2V as the new 540 motors are faster and the new ESC and batteries have fewer internal ohmic losses then the old MSC and packs. Thy didn't film it on top speed for more spectacular and realistic shots.

Can this be powered by a 7.2volt nicad of any kind (like the original)? Can it take the original hump back? It just seems slightly underpowered at 6.6volt for such a heavy vehicle.

Great post, many thanks. I have an original '79 Restored Rough Rider, and a Sand Scorcher RR on order for the end of the month can't wait to build and compare.

Tamiya has shown with its SRB re-releases that nothing is impossible, lets wait and see till 2016 ;-)

Any chance of the BigWig making a comeback? Thats one model I really miss from the old days.
